Hi Kathy,
Lovely to hear from you!!
If you are feeling conscious of your hips or thighs remember its all about balancing! Try to avoid pant styles that are skin tight skinny legs! They tend to create a ‘funnel’ look for your legs -making them look very skinny at the ankles -emphasising any shape through the thighs! I would suggest pants that are slim leg or straight leg! Still fairly fitted all the way through but less emphasis on ankles -balancing your hips. Also be very conscious of detailing through the waist. Avoid pants that have extra button detailing or stitching around the waist! This tends to draw attention to this areas- that means no diamonds stitched on your pockets hehe!!!
Finally an easy way to change the look of this area is to be conscious of where your tops finish! You will find that tops that finish below the waistline of your pants will be more flattering! Avoid tops that finish on the waistline of your pants, or that have elastic bands through the waist line! These styles will create focal points of your waist! Witchery has great options for tops with uneven or longer hemlines atm! Also consider blouses! For the best results; blouses should finish at the skinniest part of your thigh! About mid-way through the front pockets of your jeans!
Remember that you need to create a focal point of your outfit. In your case you want to avoid this being the waist/ thigh area so draw the eye away from this area by accessorising with a nice necklace (draws the eye up) or statement shoes in a brighter colour or pattern (draws the eye down).
Additionally be conscious of the wash & fabric of your pants! You want to avoid jeans that are light washed in areas like the thighs. As the eye is drawn to the light coloured wash, this will emphasis the ‘space’ of your thighs. Stick with dark coloured bottoms like black, darker denim washes and match with light coloured tops to balance!
Overall try to follow this formula of dark bottoms + Straight leg cut + Longer Hemline Tops & invest instatement shoes or necklaces = Feeling fabulous about your waist again!
Hope this helps!! Have fun shopping!!! xxx
